Phone scammer pretending to be Bexar County lieutenant, sheriff's office warns

BCSO is alerting the public of a scammer pretending to be a lieutenant with the county and demanding victims pay to avoid arrest

SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Sheriff's Office is warning the public of a phone scam pretending to be a lieutenant with the county.

According to the sheriff's office, someone is using an alias of “Lieutenant Alexander” and claiming to represent the BCSO “Warrants/ Citation Division." The individual has already scammed more than $1,400 from a Bexar County resident this week.

The scammer informed the victim that arrest warrants had been issued because the victim failed to show up for a “jury trial” and for “contempt of court.”

The sheriff's office says that in this case, the suspect "told the victim to purchase multiple “Money PAKS” totaling for an amount of $1486.00 in order to avoid arrest."

In a social media post made today, BCSO emphasized that they do not call nor accept payment over the phone for warrants; the office instead mails a “warrant for arrest notice.”

BSCO would like any other victims of this type of crime to call them at (210)335-6000.
