Body found near VIA Park and Ride on northwest side of San Antonio, authorities say

Police said a passenger on a VIA bus reported seeing a possible body across the street.

SAN ANTONIO — A body was discovered on the city's northwest side Wednesday morning, authorities said.

San Antonio police were called for a welfare check around 9 a.m. near the Ingram VIA Park and Ride on Northwestern Drive.

Police said a passenger on a via bus reported seeing a possible body across the street.

Officers arrived and found a man's body hidden in the brush underneath a shopping center sign. Authorities said the man appears to have been dead for awhile based on decomposition. Witnesses said they frequently saw the man in the area but could not remember the last time they saw him.

The man is believed to be homeless and was well-known in the area, police said.

A guitar and a hammock was also found near the man's body.

Police are treating this as an apparent sudden death pending an investigation from the medical examiner.
