SAN ANTONIO — A body was found floating in the water at a SAWS Recycling Facility on the far south side of town Saturday.
A worker checking the diversion tank at the Leon Creek Water Recycling Facility found the body around 8 a.m. He said when he moved the metal panel that covers the tank he saw there was a body floating on the top of the water face down.
The worker said he tied a rope around the body using poles to prevent the body from floating into the tank, then called police.
Officials say they found a black backpack with credit cards and two cell phones in the same tank the body was found in.
Police ran the name on the cards and it came back to a missing person. The identity has not yet been released.
Officials say that because the body was found inside a sewage tank, and SAFD Hazmat unit was needed to remove the body.
The victim was not wearing a shirt and had on black shorts and rubber boots, according to police. There were obvious signs of decomposition to the body.
Officials say there were no signs of trauma to the body or identifying marks.
