Aly Raisman, Maggie Nichols, Brenna Dowell join Pacific Rim lineup

Simone Biles will be joined by three of her teammates from last year’s world championships squad at the Pacific Rim Championships this week.

Simone Biles will be joined by three of her teammates from last year’s world championships squad at the Pacific Rim Championships this week.

Aly Raisman, Maggie Nichols and Brenna Dowell – who helped the Americans to the team title at the World Championships in October -- were announced to the line-up for the event, which runs Friday to next Sunday in Everett, Wash.

Biles, the three-time defending world and U.S. champion in the all-around, was previously announced as competing in the event.

It will be the first competition of the season for Biles, who is heavily favored to win Olympic gold in Rio.

Laurie Hernandez, who finished first in the U.S. junior championships last year and third at the City of Jesolo Trophy in Jesolo, Italy, last month, was also named to the team.

Ashton Locklear, who was a member of the 2014 U.S. team that won worlds, will also compete in Pac Rims.

Defending Olympic champion Gabby Douglas was not named to the line-up for the meet. Douglas has won both competitions she has entered this season, taking American Cup gold in early March before winning in Jesolo at the end of the month.

On a conference call with reporters last week, Biles said she would be debuting a new floor routine as well as an upgraded second vault at Pac Rims.
