The 22nd Annual March for Justice was held in downtown San Antonio on Saturday. This year’s theme was “building bridges for education, non-violence, and social justice.”
Thousands marched, with many showing solidarity with the other big march on Saturday, the March for Our Lives protesting gun violence.
But all marchers honored Latino civil rights leader Cesar Chavez, a man who dedicated his life to improving the treatment, pay, and working conditions of farmworkers.
He’s still remembered and commemorated in San Antonio for leading marches, calling for boycotts, and going on several hunger strikes.
The march in his name began at 10 a.m. Saturday with thousands starting their walk at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Theater and making their way to Hemisfair Park.
This year, Andres P. Chavez, Cesar Chavez’s grandson, served as grand marshal.
All throughout the march, “si se puede” chants rang strong, serving as a reminder that anything is possible.
