One NBA player thought Matt Costello of the Spurs should be an All-Star

Did you know that the Spurs even had a player on their roster named Matt Costello?

This week, the NBA released All-Star voting numbers. Most people paid attention to who the starters were and how close some guys came to being starters who might end up missing the game altogether...

Like Manu Ginobili.

But I looked at the other side of the voting sheet, particularly who players voted for. More specifically, who got just one vote from his fellow players to get to the All-Star game.

Here’s the crazy thing: Davis Bertans and Kyle Anderson each got zero player votes despite flashes of brilliance during games this season. But you know who did get a single player vote on the Spurs roster?

Matt Costello.

Even the most hard core of Spurs fans think I’m making that name up right now.

“There isn’t a guy named Matt Costello that plays for the Spurs!”

Oh yes, there is. Costello is on a two-way contract, meaning that he’s contractually limited in the number of games he can appear with the Spurs before the team has to offer him a full NBA contract and make him part of the roster.

As a result, the 6’10 small forward from Michigan State has only appeared in three games this season. In six minutes of play, he’s scored two points on 1-3 shooting and has grabbed an astounding seven rebounds with two blocks.

Unfortunately, he’s got one turnover and no assists in his NBA career, which puts his assist to turnover ratio at negative infinity.

But somehow this player with a negative infinity turnover ratio has one NBA player in the league right now that thinks he deserves to be an All-Star.

My guess is that it was Bryn Forbes. They were teammates at Michigan State.

Suddenly, I have a new obsession. I really want to know who cast that vote for Costello over other Spurs guys like Davis Bertans and Kyle Anderson.

Stay tuned.
