Plan ahead if you're attending Final Four weekend downtown

So much will be happening downtown on Final Four weekend, the best way to participate is to plan ahead.

Thousands are expected in downtown San Antonio for the Final Four next week. Ahead of that, crews are working around the clock to get ready to host the teams and their fans.

On top of hosting the NCAA Tournament semifinals and finals, San Antonio is going to be home to a free mega-concert. But the key to enjoying yourself is planning.

As crews build stages and prepare for more than 90,000 fans, San Antonio Sports is ramping up to makes sure everything runs smoothly.

“Oh, this week has been crazy but next week is going to be much crazier,” said Mary Ullmann Japhet with San Antonio Sports.

Right now, they’re working to decorate and make sure the city looks its best.

“More than 3,000 people have registered to volunteer,” Japhet explained.

But for fan enjoyment, they recommend making a plan. That means taking a cab or rideshare to avoid traffic. Being prepared means understanding the clear bag policy at every venue.

Also, the free concert will fill up early and fast.

“If you really want to see one of these headliners, get here early and enjoy everything there is to do downtown,” Japhet said.

Organizers also say that they’re at the mercy of the fire marshal and people may be turned away if an event gets too crowded.
