Irisa Wheeler is a visual storyteller journalist for KENS 5 in San Antonio, Texas.
She is a Georgia native from the tiny town of Hinesville. She is a proud graduate of Augusta University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communication in 2018.
Irisa's career in television began at WRDW News 12 NBC 26 in Augusta, Georgia, while she was still in college. Beginning as an intern, she quickly climbed the ladder to become a video editor, then a photojournalist, and finally an investigative photojournalist in a matter of two years.
In 2021, Irisa won a GABBY Award for "Best Videographer" in Georgia's small and medium TV markets. That same year, a story she crafted about a lost Bible being returned to its owner earned her another GABBY award for "Best Feature story" as well as an Emmy nomination.
In her biggest adventure yet, Irisa's heart led her to KENS 5 in November 2021. She traveled 17 hours to the Lone Star State with her fluffy poodle, Simba.
This Georgia Peach is happy to call San Antonio her new home!
