Meet the KENS 5 Team: Nate Ryan

Evening Sports Anchor
Credit: KENS 5

Nate Ryan is the evening sports anchor for KENS 5 in San Antonio, Texas. You can catch Nate anchoring weeknights at 6 and 10, in addition to Sunday nights.

Nate comes to San Antonio from El Paso, where he was a sports anchor and reporter at ABC affiliate KVIA for three years. While in El Paso, Nate covered everything from NBA games and March Madness to bowl games and Texas state tournaments. Nate also did play-by-play for UTEP & New Mexico State athletics.

In addition to sports, Nate saw the value of local journalism through his coverage of the El Paso Wal-Mart shooting in 2019. In 2020, Nate was voted the city’s "Best Sports Anchor."

Prior to El Paso, Nate was a production assistant at ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut. In addition to working for the anchors he grew up idolizing, Nate helped launch ESPN’s sports betting program “Daily Wager.” He graduated from DePauw University in Indiana with a degree in communications and Spanish.

A native of downtown Chicago, Nate grew up just a few blocks south of historic Wrigley Field. His favorite meal is a deep dish pizza from his local neighborhood restaurant, ironically called “Chicago’s Pizza,” but he’s always on the lookout for challengers. Fair warning, it’s tough to beat 24-hour delivery!

A former college tennis player, Nate loves staying active by running along the San Antonio River or exploring new hiking trails across Texas! He also enjoys black coffee and golden retrievers, and he's a mediocre guitar player.

Nate is new to the Alamo City and would love to hear from you with local recommendations and story ideas. Feel free to say hello! Se Habla Español!
