JJ Rudd is a Utility Editor for KENS 5 in San Antonio, Texas.
Born in Panama City, Florida, JJ moved around at a young age, living in Abilene, TX, Honolulu, HI, and then San Antonio with his mother at age 7.
He grew up on the far west side of San Antonio. He attended Warren High School for two years, then moved to Reagan High School, where he graduated in 2010. He played football and basketball.
He started working for KENS 5 in December 2010 as a production assistant before leaving to join the U.S. Air Force in February 2012.
While serving in the Air Force, JJ was a firefighter and lived in Guam and Alamogordo, New Mexico.
In 2016, JJ decided to leave the Air Force and move back to San Antonio. He attended San Antonio College for two years and received an associate degree in Liberal Arts.
In 2019, JJ returned to KENS 5. As a utility editor, JJ performs a variety of roles, including editing, shooting breaking news, setting up live shots, shooting video and grabbing sound bites from events around the city. JJ also drives the KENS 5 Weather Truck during weather events.
JJ has been happily married for 11 years to his wife, Melanie. They have three children: Kylie, Kyrie and Kai. In his free time, JJ plays basketball weekly and spends time with his family.
