SAN ANTONIO — Aang and the gang are returning to San Antonio in two weeks.
Avatar: The Last Airbender In Concert will perform at the Majestic Theater on December 4 starting at 7:30 p.m.
Guests can expect to see a two-hour show with a live orchestra playing the musical score to iconic scenes from the hit TV show.
Associate Conductor Heidi Joosten, whose parents are also conductors, says she fell in love with the TV show as an adult in graduate school and was thrilled when she heard about the global tour.
“It’s an immersive experience. We’re all here to just celebrate what this show has meant to us for 20 years," Joosten said.
The orchestra includes dozens of professional musicians and a choir that highlights memorable moments with Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, and many other characters.
Joosten says she has the best seat in the house and loves how people of all ages have responded to the tour.
“I get to witness these world-class musicians doing their thing and its my job to just kind of like steer that ship and make it work for everyone. And as long as everybody on that stage starts and ends having a great time, I feel like I’ve done my job," she said.
Co-creator Bryan Konietzko says fans have been begging to have the show become a live orchestra event for years. This prompted the show's original composer Jeremy Zuckerman to team up with co-creators Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino to create Avatar: The Last Airbender In Concert.
The tour originally kicked off in September 2024 and stopped in San Antonio with a sold-out show. The global tour will continue in 2025 with several stops across the United Kingdom, Germany, France and the Netherlands.
"Avatar: The Last Airbender" won several awards during its three-season run including the Peabody Award, a Primetime Emmy and multiple others.
Joosten says guests who have not seen the show can still understand the story and emotions within the scenes. She says the performance is similar to a ballet with three encompassing arcs.
“You are among friends that all really love this series and we want to ensure that you get the most out of this experience as you can," she said.
