35th Annual River City Cluster of Dog Shows kicks off

River City Cluster of Dog Shows will run from July 12 through the 14 at the Exposition Hall on the grounds of the Freeman Coliseum.

SAN ANTONIO — The 35th Annual River City Cluster of Dog Shows kicked off today at the Exposition Hall on the grounds of the Freeman Coliseum.

The shows run through July 14 and they start at 8:30 a.m. each day. On Sunday, group shows will begin at 2:00 p.m. so the shows are expected to wrap-up around 5:00 p.m.

Dogs and their handlers have come to these shows from all over the world, competing with the purest breeds of dogs from golden retrievers to poodles for the top prize of best in show.

“Each breed competes in the group so you get those seven group winners…so at the end of the day seven dogs will compete and one will be given the best in show title for today," Jenifer Delmer with the Bexar County Kennel Club said.

Children from the age of nine are able to enter their dogs into the show and walk them to be judged.

Everyone looking to attend can bring family and friends. The event is free for everyone except for a parking fee of $15.
