'Carry Forward 5K' raises money to support veterans and their families

Nearly 2,000 runners are registered for this year’s run that will take place Saturday.

SAN ANTONIO — The Wounded Warrior Project's annual Carry Forward 5K is returning Saturday at Mission County Park.

It’s been going on in San Antonio since 2019, and the money raised in the event goes back into the community to support veterans and their families.

This run is unique because participants are allowed to carry flags, weights, or even other people to symbolize the burden veterans carry on their shoulders to protect others.

Nearly 2,000 runners are registered for this year’s run, but you're able to walk up and register starting at 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

The run will start at 8 a.m. and it costs $50 to sign up.

The organization’s mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors. Your money supports their programs and services, ranging from mental health, financial wellness, activist advocacy and long-term care.

“This is an opportunity for warriors to see how thankful and appreciative this nation is for what they do. And this weekend, how appreciative San Antonio is for what they have done for their service and for their sacrifice,” said Angela Hemmen, Peer-to-Peer fundraising director.

If you want to register early, you can go to Mission County Park Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to get set up.
