Sights and sounds from the 133rd edition of the Battle of Flowers Parade

The fan-favorite parade is now in the record books for 2024, having brought a celebration of love, cultures and good causes to downtown San Antonio.

SAN ANTONIO — The 133rd annual Battle of Flowers took over the streets of San Antonio on Friday, where KENS 5 had the pleasure to speak with party-goers and organizers running the event while gazing upon the nearly 60 floats that made their way through downtown.

Before the festivities started, Helen Meyer, vice president of fundraising for the Battle of Flowers Association, took KENS 5 inside "the den" which houses some of the festive floats.

"This is where all the magic happens," she said on Thursday. "These are our public school floats."

Every year, the Battle of Flowers Association picks 10 public schools to participate. Meyer told us that each school has a theme within a theme, the main one for this year's event being "Viva Amor 2024 " and "Celebrations We Love." That made the parade a celebration of love, cultures and good causes in San Antonio.

Weather was a worry going into the parade, but it didn't stop party-goers from showing up regardless of rain or shine.

"The music, the bands, the weather, all of it!," one party-goer shared. "My favorite Fiesta thing is to be coming out here with family, to enjoy all of the culture, the Fiesta medal mania and the delicious food that is unique to San Antonio."

Another shared that the parade landed on her birthday this year. We simply asked her, "Is being a Fiesta baby the best thing of all time?"

Her response: "Oh yes, we know how to rock and roll!"

A lot of San Antonians shared the same sentiment about what they enjoy most about the parade, emphasizing the food, camaraderie and joy of the annual parade.
