SAN ANTONIO — "La Feria de las Flores" is a fundraiser for the Second Council of the League of United Latin American Citizens.
"I just came out for a good cause. Help out the community, have some fun," attendee Michael Sanchez said.
Council President Joann Garza says they want to use the money to pour back into the community.
"This is the money that we're using to work to keep raising money for scholarships and for the student pantries, that's helping with gas," Garza said. "It just helps them, you know, with little stuff that they needed to maybe get by."
LULAC Council Two wants to also support senior citizens and nurses in the future. Garza says their goal is to raise $20,000.
"I would love for you all to come out," Garza said. "I hope you enjoy because this is for you. Because you help us raise money. Without you, we could not do this."
This is a free event for everyone to enjoy. Live performances are happening throughout the day. Food trucks, vendors, and kid rides are also available.
Bexar County Commissioner Rebeca Clay-Flores led today's runners off in prayer before starting their 5K run. She says she's happy to support a bigger purpose.
"We as a community need to come together and support each other and support the organizations that are fighting for our community," Clay-Flores said.
LULAC Council Number Two plans to hold future fundraising events for the community, and they plan to crown their next Reina at the end of September.
