'Run to Remember:' Honoring San Antonio's fallen first responders

The 100 Club has been organizing it for 22 years, and everyone involved participates to remember the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.

SAN ANTONIO — Runners hit the pavement at Eisenhower Park for the 22nd Annual "Run to Remember" Saturday morning.

The 100 Club of San Antonio hosts the event to honor first responders who risk their lives to save others.

Nearly 500 participants are involved in this year’s Annual Run to Remember.

The 100 Club has been organizing it for 22 years, and everyone involved participates to remember the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.

"Since the 100 Club started in 1973, we have 85 fallen first responders, fire and police that have made the ultimate sacrifice."

Many runners wore the name of a first responder who lost their life in the line of duty.

Officer Mayela Salinas is running with the San Antonio Park Police Department to carry on the legacy of those who served before her.

"It's important to us that we keep them in our memory," Salinas said. "For everybody, for their family members too. We will never forget them and the sacrifices they made for even us officers who are really coming up in the ranks."

The money raised from the event goes back into the 100 Club of San Antonio’s mission.

"The 100 Club buys equipment, we put on training events for first responders, and we’ll do wellness support for first responders if needed—like counseling Then, of course, when we lose someone in the line of duty, we come in and provide that immediate financial assistance," said Bart Vasquez, 100 Club of San Antonio's executive director.

The 100 Club of San Antonio's next event is "Boots and Badges," happening in January. If you want to support the organization, you can find their information here.
