SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio is now home to the largest Catrina statue in the USA, according to the city.

On Thursday, the city unveiled the 38.5-foot-tall statue in Maverick Plaza at La Villita. The statue has a lighted butterfly and a flower-festooned hat. It was created by Mexican artists and brothers Jesus and Amauri Sanabria and their team from Artsumex Colectivo de Arte Mexicano.

While the largest in the country, it's also the second largest "Calavera Catrina" statue in the country following Puerto Vallarta's 74+ foot tall statue that was unveiled in 2022.

San Antonio hosts the largest Day of the Day celebration in the country.

One of the founders of the festival Chef Johnny Hernandez has also announced a city-wide "Name the Catrina Contest." You can enter your entry at the Day of the Dead SA website. The winner will be announced during the Day of the Dead River Parade on Oct. 25.

The festival is set to take place from Oct. 25-27 throughout Historic La Villita Arts Village.
