SAN ANTONIO — Rodeo season is nearly here and there are some major changes you need to know about!
Layout of the Fairgrounds
The layout of the fairgrounds has undergone some changes that will aim to ease traffic congestion and provide more family-friendly shows and attractions.
The carnival is promised to be bigger and better with a total of 60 rides. This section of the rodeo will be located on the east side of the AT&T center near the livestock barns. Also on the east side will be the Swiftly Swine Pig Races and High Energy Shows.
The Texas Wildlife Expo will be held at the Freeman Coliseum concourse, while the Hall of Fame area will be in between the Food Court and the backside of the coliseum.
Meanwhile, the Frontier Club, a members-only entertainment establishment, will be next to the San Antonio Zoo exhibit. The Star Experience Tent will be set up near the Cattle Barn.
Attractions and Shows
This year's Stock Show and Rodeo will include new attractions and shows, such as the Bustin' in the Barns, a new mutton bustin' experience presented by Huggies.
Nerveless Nocks Thrill Show, Robert Castillo's BMX Freestyle Team, Army Bass Anglers Coalition Kids Fishing Tank and Dan-Dan the Farmer Man, are all additional shows and contests that attendees can check out.
Rodeo
As for the Rodeo itself, an additional performance-- the Rodeo Wildcard will be added to the Rodeo lineup. This additional event brings the PRCA Rodeo performances to a total of 22.
The top 10 winners from each of the SA Rodeo Qualifiers in Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Tie-Down Roping and Barrel Racing will vie for a coveted spot in the Rodeo Finals. "Roughy" cowboys from the Semifinals will have another chance to make 8-seconds in Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding and Bull Riding to earn a spot in the Finals.
Entertainment
Performers at this year's Rodeo will include Carly Pearce & Michael Ray, Lauren Alaina, Colter Wall, Becky G, Bush, KC and the Sunshine Band, among others.
