The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is back. Here's what we saw on the first day...

The rodeo is celebrating 75 years in the Alamo City this year.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo kicked off Thursday for a particularly special month of dancing, bull-riding and mutton bustin' as the event commemorating 75 years in 2024.

The annual rodeo is the highlight of the San Antonio social season with concerts, classic rodeo events, a carnival, tons of food booths and, of course, the stock show that provides thousands of dollars worth of scholarships for high school students.

More than 2,000 tons of dirt was loaded into the Frost Bank Center Monday in preparation of the big event. This year's rodeo takes place from Feb. 8-25 and includes more than two weeks of world-class entertainment.

The bands playing at the rodeo grounds Thursday include Mark Odom, John Boyd, the Andi Hollman Trio and Britt Ballenger. Find a full live music lineup here

It is also $2 Thursday, meaning fairgrounds admission is $2, rides are $2 and select food at the carnival is $2.

KENS 5 reporter Mike Jimenez explored the Expo Hall where nearly 200 vendors await, ready to offer customers a unique shopping experience.

Simoné Simpson, meanwhile, checked out all the fun kid-friendly events happening at the rodeo including swine races, the petting zoo, a dairy barn with food challenges, and so much more for families to enjoy.

Alicia Neaves got an inside look at the delicious food at the rodeo including fajitas, turkey legs and more yummy treats.
