SAN ANTONIO — The world premiere of Lyric & the Keys will take place at the Magik Theatre this weekend as part of the theater's 30th anniversary year.
The story comes from author Roxanne Schroeder-Arce who was inspired to write her own story of struggling to read as a young girl. She says she overcame the fear with the help of an empathetic school janitor. She went on to become the associate dean of the University of Texas College of Fine Arts and worked with the Magik Theatre to bring her story to life.
She says she hopes the production can help the young audience overcome their own fears and can reach their full potential.
"Lyric and the Keys is about how anyone can be a student and a teacher to anyone else,” Schroeder-Arce.
The Magik Theatre is continuing its 30th anniversary season with Lyric & the Key. The theatre opened in 1994 as just a small, family-run theatre troupe. It has grown into an iconic fixture in the San Antonio performing arts scene and serves more than 44,000 patrons at its Hemisfair location.
