Bringing Hollywood to San Antonio, a new film production studio just opened up downtown and the goal is to give up-and-coming talent a unique space to create. Alamo City Studios is all about new opportunities, but its old reputation proceeds it.
“Back in the ‘80s and ‘90s this was the studio for San Antonio and over 50 full length movies have been shot out here,” said Kerry Allen, director of operations for Alamo City Studios. “But back in the late ‘90s, 2000’s other states started offering incentives and they moved away.”
Vincent Hernandez is an aspiring film maker. He’s excited about the opportunities the new studio will bring about.
“With a new space like this, it’s going to be great for a lot of young folks,” Hernandez said. “Especially now a days, a lot of arts are being cut from school.”
The multifunctional facility gives filmmakers and producers an opportunity to work on big and small screen projects.
“From producers to screenwriters to editors with sound rooms, special effects,” Allen said. “Anyone that wants to shoot a commercial, music video, or movie, we have everyone in house to do it right here.”
Studio co-founder Kerry Valderrama said that the goal is to provide all the resources local talent might need so that they can stay local.
“We just participated in SA Works with all the local high schools” Valderrama said. “So anybody interested in the film industry, we want them to stay in San Antonio and not head out to Los Angeles or New York.”
Artists interested in using the space for projects can sign up for a membership through the studio.
