SAN ANTONIO -- Aaron Wright will join the KENS 5 Eyewitness News team as an anchor/reporter beginning Tuesday, January 16, the station announced Friday.

Wright will anchor the weekday noon newscast and report for the afternoon newscasts.

He joins KENS 5 from WBIR in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he served as morning anchor. WBIR and KENS 5 both are owned by TEGNA.

“I’m excited to join KENS 5 and be part of a team that’s committed to great reporting and being a positive part of the community,” Wright said. “From my first visit, I was impressed by the vibrant culture of San Antonio. I’m looking forward to growing as a journalist and enjoying the best San Antonio has to offer.”

“I’m excited to add Aaron to our team,” said Jack Acosta, executive news director for KENS 5. “He’s done some excellent work at our sister station in Knoxville, and I know he’s going to be a great fit for KENS 5 and San Antonio.”

Wright is a native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and attended Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia, where he studied broadcast journalism at the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communication with a minor in political science.

After graduating, he worked as an intern in the Baltimore Sun’s sports department before landing a job at NBC News and MSNBC in Washington, D.C.
