SAN ANTONIO — A new KENS 5 Original documentary, “Border Cowboys,” is premiering Wednesday, August 17, on the new KENS 5+ video streaming app.
The documentary focuses on the soccer team at Gladys Porter Early College High School in Brownsville, Texas. In the shadow of the border, school spirit and a drive to succeed are thriving with the school’s storied soccer program.
The documentary tells the stories of players and coaches as they strive to make it to the state championship game while they also confront off-the-field challenges and aspirations that will define the students' prospects after high school.
“We’re proud to shine a spotlight on the inspiring work being done at Porter High. KENS 5’s border team has spent a year following the players and their coaches through a season of highs and lows,” said Jack Acosta, KENS 5 news director. “The final product gives viewers a fascinating look at the struggles and triumphs of one of Texas’ best high school soccer programs.”
“We’re focused on covering issues at the border along with sharing stories like this one about the Porter High Cowboys,” said Tom Cury, KENS 5 president and general manager. “These kids and their coaches are an inspiration, and we’re thrilled to share their story with all of South Texas.”
