KENS 5 anchor Jeff Brady set to retire from broadcast news

Brady joined KENS 5 in January 2016. Before that, he had worked as a news anchor for WFAA in Dallas and KSAT in San Antonio.

Jeff Brady, who has anchored KENS 5 Eyewitness News at 5, 6 and 10 for the past three years, announced Wednesday that he plans to retire from broadcast television early next year.

Brady joined KENS 5 in January 2016. Before that, he had worked as a news anchor for WFAA in Dallas and KSAT in San Antonio.

"Three years ago, when I learned I would have the opportunity to join KENS 5, I was ecstatic," Brady said Wednesday afternoon during a station staff meeting. "I knew I would be working for one of the most iconic media brands in Texas, in a city that I know and love, and among some of the best journalists anywhere. I was not disappointed."

"However, there's another team that needs me more. That's my family."

"My wife had intended to move her medical practice and the family to San Antonio within that first year, but her practice instead unexpectedly blossomed in Dallas, and her advisors say moving it now would jeopardize its success," he said. "Our three fantastic children are growing up without me, so I've made one of the hardest decisions of my career. And that is to retire."

During Brady's time at KENS 5, he helped create and develop our weekly "People Who Make San Antonio Great" series. His service and experience as a U.S. Marine carried over into his job and aligned with San Antonio's military community and KENS 5's core values.

"I can imagine how difficult a decision this is for Jeff to retire from the KENS 5 main anchor seat," said Tom Cury, KENS 5 president and general manager. "It was very easy for us to support his decision to have his family back under the same roof where it makes sense for them."

"We are grateful for Jeff's time with KENS 5 and wish him and his family success and happiness in the future."

Brady said he plans to obtain a graduate degree in marketing or communications so he can teach at the collegiate level. He also hopes to work in communications with a North Texas non-profit or faith-based organization.

Brady's last on-air broadcast for KENS 5 will be Wednesday, February 27 at 10 p.m.

Jeff Brady has been a regular presence in the local community as he reports stories with ordinary San Antonians for his series, "People Who Make San Antonio Great."
