KENS 5 Eyewitness News weekend anchor Karen Grace was surprised Friday night with a caricature on the famous wall at The Palm Restaurant on Houston Street downtown.
Grace said it was a big moment for her because she was born and raised in San Antonio and has worked at KENS 5 for the past 13 years.
Grace was also allowed to autograph her caricature. She was surrounded by friends and her mother, Debra Prude.
The history of the caricatures of celebrities dates back to 1926.
According to their website, when the owners opened their first Palm back then, they had no money to decorate. Luckily, their location attracted a large clientele of cartoonists.
In exchange for their meals, artists would often draw their own creations on the walls.
Grace’s caricature is located at table 54 alongside other KENS 5 luminaries, such as retired general manager Bob McGann, former Great Day SA host Bridget Smith, current GDSA executive producer Luis Munoz and current Eyewitness News evening anchor Sarah Lucero.
