SAN ANTONIO — Gloves and goggles are worn, because at Dulce Soap Co., it all starts with a bit of science.
"I just started on my own learning how to make soap trial and error, small batches and it ended up being a success," Dulce Soap Co. Owner Brissa Ytuarte said.
Brissa Ytuarte started making soap in college, learning through online tutorials and books from the library.
"It's all just so precise and I love that about it but you can still be so creative to add fragrances, colors and designs," Ytuarte said.
She's always been attracted to nice smelling soaps.
"I grew up on things that weren't so all-natural, like Bath & Body Works and those kind of fragrances, and things that I am still attracted to," Ytuarte said.
So with her products, the focus is all-natural ingredients.
"We've tried to remain local with our ingredients just to have a local tie with our product," Ytuarte said.
Once the product took off with her family and friends, she was encouraged to sell her soaps at local pop-ups.
But she needed a name, which wasn't hard to figure out.
"I'm from a Hispanic background and [my family] were like it looks like Dulce. or candy or dessert, and I was like yeah that's what I'm going to call it," Ytuarte said.
Two years later, business is sweet.
"I think Dulce is an attempt to get you to spend some time with yourself," Ytuarte said. "So whether it's reflecting, relaxing or whatever it is that is a part of your life every single day...I try to invite people in with this line."
For Ytuarte, each slice of a soap bar means she gets to share her love with others as well.
"I think there is nothing more satisfying that selling something and seeing other people react to it positively," Ytuarte said.
