SAN ANTONIO — There's no lack of choices at Paciugo Gelato Café.
"In Italy, it's a way of life. There's a gelato shop on every corner. It's really is a part of the culture," Paciugo General Manager, Steven Delon said.
The Ginatta family started the gelato cafe with a family recipe from Italy. They've called San Antonio home since 2008.
The creamy goodness is milk-based unlike traditional ice cream. In their back kitchen, it's mixed up by hand daily.
"Our gelato is 100 % handmade. We don't bring it in, it's handmade every morning, so of course you can be more crafty with a little more artistic," Deleon said.
Once it's frozen, to perfection their unique way of serving it up gets all the attention.
A strainer turns the gelato into what looks like cooked spaghetti.
"In Europe especially Germany its a big item there, it's called spaghetti ice. So we have a big military presence in San Antonio," Deleon said. "They get really excited about it. It was a really big hit when we first introduced it."
And, of course, San Antonio is the taco capitol of Texas, so you have to try one of their gelato tacos.
Three scoops and topped with everything under the sun.
"We try to keep it interesting. It's a nice treat to treat the family, to treat a date, to treat a business partner and its just a nice getaway," Delon said. "It's good to be in the business for sure."
