SAN ANTONIO — Families thinking about providing a home to a furry companion can take advantage of a May adoption special being offered by San Antonio Pets Alive! for the first half of the month.

From May 1 to May 15, all dogs and cats can be adopted out for $25 regardless of their age, according to a press release from the organization. It typically costs anywhere from $60 to $150 to adopt, with younger animals costing more.

SAPA! says its special is part of a national Empty the Shelters event organized by the Bissell Pet Foundation, which has helped facilitate nearly 190,000 shelter adoptions since 2016. SAPA! said it has 700 animals currently in its shelter, and most recently issued a Code Red – meaning some of those animals were at risk of being put down – on Tuesday afternoon.

The San Antonio special will be offered at SAPA's three locations:

  • SAPA! Rescue Center - Building 1 (4710 Highway 151)
  • SAPA! Medical Care & Adoption Center (9107 Marbach Road, Suite 109)
  • Petco Love Adoption Center (6001 Northwest Loop 410, Suite 103)

All animals adopted out of SAPA! facilities have been vaccinated and microchips, and have been spayed/neutered.
