THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Bighearted drivers and first responders teamed up to save a dog spotted on I-45 in The Woodlands this week, according to The Woodlands Fire Department.
Several good Samaritans stopped to try and help the frightened pup Wednesday afternoon. She was in the main southbound lanes south of 242.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office blocked traffic while The Woodlands Fire Department and Montgomery County Animal Shelter tried to coax her out from under a pickup truck.
At one point, she took off and led them on a brief chase across all the main lanes but they finally caught her.
She was taken to the shelter. They say the dog isn't chipped but she had a collar with a chain that appeared to be broken off so she must belong to someone. The shelter is hoping that person comes forward.
If not, the dog will be kept on a four-day hold and if there are no health or behavioral issues, she'll be put up for adoption.
