SAN ANTONIO — "We are foster retired," said Lee Wright. "It was time to focus on who we have in our home," he added. I'd say they've earned that right after fostering 23 children in recent years, and adopting four of those children.
It was easy to see after spending some time with the Wright Family that Lee and Jennifer are definitely heroes!
"We took off running," said Jennifer. "We were licensed within a month because I was persistent."
The Wright's have three biological girls, all teenagers, all girls.
And while Lee was serving with the United States Military aboard, Jennifer looked into becoming foster parents. She was persistent as she mentioned and after Lee returned from service overseas they took the steps to get licensed.
"My parent's adopted three kids when I was in my twenties," said Lee. "Suddenly, I was a big brother overnight so I had seen the amazing miracles that can come through adoption with the progress, the growth and the opportunities,. That was kind of why I agree wholeheartedly once we got rolling, and that was a lot of my motivation."
Jennifer told us the couple never anticipated fostering twenty three kids or adopting four.
"I think before we ever took kids in we approached it like we a safe place and we could show them Jesus," she said.
Jennifer wanted to share with our viewers that even the littlest acts of kindness can go great distances such as doing respite care or simply going to the hospital and helping to rock babies.
"There are so many babies that don't have placements currently," she said. "They stay in hotel rooms, especially teenagers. That's a huge problem in the state, especially Bexar County."
Lee expressed to us the blessing that it has been to open their home to children the way they have.
"All these kids that won't ever remember us," he said. "We were a home where they were safe and loved. "If us coming to you and that causes one person to open their home to a child then it's worth it.'
Lee joked during our interview that the reason all this has worked so well is that he's the best husband ever!
"That's it," said Jennifer, smiling. "That's really it."
