SAN ANTONIO — Retired military dog Yyacob was reunited with his former handler Army Staff Sergeant Payton May in San Antonio on Monday after two-and-a-half long years apart.
For almost two years, Yyacob and May worked side by side, including a 9-month deployment in Iraq, before being forced to separate when May was reassigned to Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.
After learning that the eight-year-old bomb-sniffing Belgian Malinois was being retired, May didn't waste any time reacing out to American Humane to help bring Yyacob to San Antonio, home.
The 26-year-old Staff Sergeant's wish came true and Yyacob was brought home just in time for Thanksgiving.
This will be their second Thanksgiving together after celebrating the first while serving in Iraq.
May looks forward to giving the canine veteran the relaxing retirement he has earned.
