SAN ANTONIO — A very unique, yet beloved family pet, had quite the adventure over the last month when he got lost in his neighborhood after being accidentally left unattended while enjoying the sun in his backyard.
Sunny is a one-year-old bearded dragon, and the beloved pet of Hannah, her husband Mark and family.
"Our bearded dragon loves to hang out in our backyard and will literally beg to go outside," said Hannah Snyder. "So on Feb. 4th, we let Sunny go outside, much like any normal day. But I got distracted with cleaning the foster puppy pen, and when I came back to get Sunny, he was GONE."
Hannah said they looked all over their property, and the neighbor's backyard and even went to the horse stables located behind her home, but Sunny was nowhere to be found.
"We checked our backyard security camera, and one moment he was there, and the next he was gone," said Hannah. "So I sadly figured he was swooped up by a hawk and didn't even think to put a post out about a lost Beardy."
Fast forward to a little more than three weeks later and a neighbor told them that someone else in the neighborhood had found a bearded dragon and posted about it on the Ring Neighbor app.
Low and behold it was Sunny!
A neighbor named Alison and her dog KC had found Sunny a few streets over in her yard.
"They weren't sure what to do with him until another neighbor, a good Samaritan named Crystal, came to the rescue to retrieve him, as she had bearded dragons of her own," said Hannah.
Crystal had Sunny for a whole day until she could reunite him back with his family. While waiting to get ahold of Hannah in order to return the beloved pet, Crystal had some errands to run so she decided to take Sunny along for the ride.
"She took such great care of him, they cuddled last night, he got to dine on strawberries and she even asked me what his favorite music is so he could jam out," said Hannah. "He got to meet a horse and take a road trip on the dashboard and then was safely returned to us at noon on Tuesday."
Hannah and her entire family are still shocked that their beloved pet has been found and says she feels so blessed to have such wonderful neighbors that helped make this happen.
"We are elated to have our family pet returned home and we expect to have another eight to nine years with him," said Hannah.
