SAN ANTONIO — This is Taco Tuesday - we're on the hunt for the best tacos in San Antonio, based on recommendations from the KENS 5 audience!
The Taco Tuesday crew visited Taqueria Datapoint 5 to see how their carnitas stacked up against the best tacos in San Antonio. This spot in the Deco District, located at 1702 W Gramercy Pl, has been serving up Tex-Mex to locals for more than 5 years.
The carnitas tacos packed a symphony of flavor, especially when piled high with the standard street taco dressings - cilantro, onions, and lots of lime.
In judging San Antonio's tacos, we're using a rating system based on what we think are the most important factors for a tasty taco: FLAVOR, FRESHNESS, SIZE, SPICE, and TORTILLAS.
The tortillas at Taqueria Datapoint were warm, fresh, and full of flavor. These tacos were served on mini corn tortillas. The tortillas were structurally sound without putting up a fight as we took a bite through them. They absorbed tons of flavor from the meat, and we gave Taqueria Datapoint bonus points for doubling up on the tortillas! 5/5
These tacos sparkled with flavor. The carnitas tasted as though they'd been marinating in seasoning for hours. But what really put these tacos over the top were the compliment of flavors. The meat, caramelized onions, salsa, and cilantro were in perfect harmony with each other. 5/5
At Taqueria Datapoint, freshness is king! The tacos were made-to-order with fresh ingredients, and that only added to the delicious flavor these tacos bring. 5/5
The tacos themselves weren't too spicy, but their salsas left our lips tingling for at least an hour after finishing our meal. But the spice didn't drown out the flavor of these tacos; rather, they enhanced it. 5/5
While these tacos were the size you'd expect from a street-style taco, we felt that they could've packed more carnitas into those corn tortillas. 4/5
Final tally: 24/25. Taqueria Datapoint 's carnitas are near-perfection; our only complaint is that we wanted more!
