CEDAR HILL, Texas — A North Texas kid will be honored at this year's Nickelodeon Kid Choice Awards for making an impact on the Cedar Hill community.

At just nine years old, Michael Thompson has done some uncommon things for most rising fourth graders.

Thompson is a business owner, a community advocate and a Jefferson Award recipient. Michael started his business, Black Boys Meditate, with his brothers, Jordan and Jalen.

The business grew out of the Aura House, a yoga and meditation studio that their mom, Helsa, started in 2023.

“The impact of ‘Black Boys Meditate’ is already substantial,” Helsa Thompson said. “This project is dedicated to uplifting underserved communities through mindfulness.”

Now, Michael will be honored at the Kids' Choice Awards with a bronze Jefferson Award for public service.

The Kids' Choice Awards air on Nickelodeon Saturday, July 13, at 7 p.m.
