BOERNE, Texas — The Christmas light display that caught national attention for its Selena Quintanilla tribute last year is back this holiday season with more family favorites and a way for the community to give back.
You can find the 'Hinojosa Family Lights' display draped at 140 Shadow Knolls in Boerne. "Last year, we had 60,000 lights, this year it's 100,000 [lights]," homeowner Beto Hinojosa said.
Hinojosa and his family brought the holiday project to life four years ago and every year they build more to the display. He said the majority of the designs on his lawn are handmade.
"PVC pipe, rebar, Christmas lights and you can have a show," Hinojosa said.
As an elementary school principal, he got the idea from one of his student's parents, well-known in the community as the Jones family, who have a drive-thru display every year.
This year, the 'Hinojosa Family Lights' will be sequenced to Christmas Classics, songs from the Disney movie 'Coco,' the viral sensation 'Baby Shark,' and of course The Queen of Tejano, Selena Quintanilla.
The light display is on from Sunday through Thursday 5:30 p.m. - 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 11 p.m. On rainy days though, the display may be turned off.
The family will also have a donation box to help local families in need. Last year, they gathered donations for their neighbor's nonprofit Warrior Chef, helping veterans and their families.
The light show will continue until January 6th.
