Bronx has never had his very own family to love | Forgotten Friends

Abandoned as a puppy, he lived outside some apartments until someone finally captured him and brought him to the shelter last year. He's been there ever since.

BULVERDE, Texas — Our "Forgotten Friends" series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.

This week’s Forgotten Friend is Bronx, a Terrier mix who is a little over two years old who was found outside at some apartments and brought to the Bulverde Area Humane Society (BAHS) in May of 2023. He has been waiting at the shelter ever since. We aren't exactly sure why he keeps getting overlooked.

"He was abandoned at an apartment complex as a puppy and ended up living outside for six months," said shelter staff. "A woman was able to catch him and brought him to our shelter."

BAHS believes he was probably born around the middle of May in 2022. He loves to be petted, adores hot dogs and believe it or not, cream cheese.

"He will play for a while but then he will come over and curl up next to you," said staff. "And weighing in at about 40 pounds, he's the perfect size!"

One of Bronx's favorite things to do is play with other dogs. In fact, he has been known to climb up and over chain link fences to get to his friends so that he can play. For that reason, he has a very specific need.

"He will need to be in a home with a wooden fence since he can climb chain link fencing," said shelter staff.

Shelter staff said that they aren't sure how he would get along with cats, but Bronx might be willing to give it a try!

"Bronx would do best with a family with another young dog, so he has a friend," said shelter staff.  "He does great with adults and kids, too. In fact, the kids love him when we have our monthly reading to the cats and dogs."

This dog is so loving, to both people and more importantly, other dogs.

Bronx is healthy, neutered, vaccinated, chipped and waiting for you at the Bulverde Area Humane Society. He is also heartworm and chagas negative, and currently on flea, tick and heartworm preventative.

"Bronx deserves a family, which is something we don't know if he has ever had," said shelter staff.

For whoever adopts Bronx, Lucy's Doggy Daycare & Spa will be lending a paw by offering them a free "Glow Up" Day at the Spa, which includes a massage therapy bath and Pawdicure. One of Lucy's most cherished core values is to continue Lucy’s legacy of giving back to pups in need, as Lucy herself was a rescue!

If you are interested in adding Bronx into your family, please email bahshelter@yahoo.com.

The fee to adopt Bronx would be $100, which covers the cost of his healthcare, all vaccinations, flea preventative and more. The lower fee is because he has been at the shelter for more than a year.

Bronx enjoys it when kids stop by and read to him. ❤️️

All ages are welcome and the pets love it! There is no sign up necessary, all you need to do is arrive the day of the event with a book and closed toe shoes. After you get there, meet with them for a quick orientation before going off to read aloud to the dogs and cats. It's a great chance for kids to brush up on their reading skills while making the animals feel loved. Everyone benefits. Also great for older folks as well. Connect with animals while keeping your brain active.
