Eight of our Forgotten Friends still hoping for loving home by end of year | Forgotten Friends

In 2023, we shined the spotlight on 41 overlooked shelter pets in the hopes of finding them a home. 33 were adopted, eight remain at shelters.

BULVERDE, Texas — It's almost the end of the year, and we have eight Forgotten Friends that have all been on "Santa's Nice List" but sadly have not found a loving home yet. We are determined to do our best to make their doggy dreams come true and get them adopted by the end of the year.

Brody is a 7-year-old Catahoula mix who has been waiting out at the Bulverde Area Humane Society for over a year now, but has catually been at shelter off and on for about four years total.

He is such a good boy, and knows how to sit, shake and a few other basic commands. He's very smart and is housebroken as well.

He loves to go on walks and just hang out. Like most dogs, Brody is afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks. He would do best in a quiet home with no cats. He seems to like other dogs, but shelter staff think he would probably prefer it if he were your only pet.

"He just wants to be your one and only," said Penny. "This old guy deserves a stable home."

If you are interested in adding Brody into your family, please email bahshelter@yahoo.com. If there are other dogs in your home, they do require a meet and greet, which can be scheduled by email at bahshelter@yahoo.com

The shelter is located at 3563 Kingsnake in Bulverde and they are open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Fry is a gorgeous Mountain Cur mix with a lovely brindle coat, golden eyes and a big, goofy smile.

He has been waiting for someone to notice him at the Bulverde Area Humane Society for over two years now.

He was born on August 9, 2017, and weighs about 71 pounds.

"Sad, confused, and lonely, he was forced to adjust to shelter life," said BAHS. "He gets more and more lonely with each passing day. We don’t understand how there has been so little interest in him. For two years now, he has watched people walk past his kennel and choose other dogs over him."

Fry likes to go for walks and give warm hugs, but only when invited. And he will sit pretty for treats all day.

Brindle, a four-year-old Catahoula mix who was surrendered to Kerr County Animal Services over eight months ago, simply because his owner didn’t want him or his siblings anymore.

MORE: Brindle dumped at shelter because owner didn't want him anymore | Forgotten Friends

Brindle loves to play and also enjoys being petted. He is also super friendly and is current on all of his vaccinations and neutered.

"He is obsessed with playing fetch and he is amazing at it," said Karen Guerriero, Kerrville Pets Alive! "He is very affectionate and loves all human companionship."

He’d do best in an active home with no small kids. The shelter tells us he loves playing with his ball, a frisbee or really anything for hours. Brindle does not really do well with other dogs right now, but might with a little training and a whole lot of love. Also due to his high energy level, it's probably best that he not live with cats.

Do you have room in your heart and your home for Brindle and think he'd be a good fit for you? Contact KCAS at (830) 257-3100 or email them at animalcontrol@co.kerr.tx.us.

Naco, an 8-year-old friendly shepherd mix, has been at the Animal Defense League on Nacogdoches for over five years now after being left outside of the shelter back in September of 2018.

MORE: Naco is a big teddy bear in grizzly bear's body | Forgotten Friends

He’s like a big teddy bear in a grizzly bear’s body. All bark and no bite! He has been fostered a few times over the last five years but just hasn't found his perfect match yet.

Naco loves water, but is scared of the hose, so don’t let him catch you filling up his pool. He also loves McDonald’s hamburgers and can eat them up in one bite! It would probably be best if he was your only pet. He’s okay with older kids, just not tiny tots.

Naco loves belly rubs, head scratches and napping in the sun.

Naco is what the ADL calls a Diamond in the Ruff, which means ZERO adoption fees so you can spend more on toys, beds, and treats to spoil him in his new home!

Dobby is an almost 4-year-old Black Mouth Cur mix at the Canyon Lake Animal Shelter that they call a "super mutt."

MORE: Dobby has not known much kindness in her life | Forgotten Friends

"It seems that Dobby was not used to the good things in life, like getting attention, treats, or toys," said CLASS. "It took her almost four months to pick up a toy or look forward to treat time. It saddens us to know the shelter is the best she’s ever had and we are hoping she finds a family that will treat her like the princess she was meant to be."

Dobby now knows that she loves treats and would be the happiest little girl on the planet if someone would pet her 24 hours a day. She loves people and wiggles her entire body when someone gives her attention.

"Her favorite toys are the crinkling ones, or those that she can shake and she rarely tears them up," said CLASS staff. "She's great on the leash and easy to handle."

Dobby seems to be potty trained and her kennel stays nice and tidy. The shelter thinks she would do best with a family that is searching for a snuggly, happy dog that will follow them around everywhere. She doesn't need an active family because she's content to lounge most the day away.

If you'd like to give Dobby a home, please contact the Canyon Lake Animal Shelter Society

Apollo is an almost three-year-old retriever mix who was surrendered to the Helotes Humane Society over two and a half years ago when his owner could no longer take care of him.

MORE: Retriever mix named Apollo has been at shelter for over two and half years | Forgotten Friends

He was born without a hip joint on one side, but that does not slow him down at all. In fact, he’s got tons of energy and would love a home with a big fenced yard to run around, or maybe even a farm.

He loves to play with toys, especially Kongs. He really enjoys being petted too. He'd love to get adopted by an active family with older kids. Apollo gets along great with other dogs, and would enjoy have a buddy to hang around with and play. He does not do well with cats. They just don’t like his energy level.

He is healthy, neutered and current on all of his vaccinations.

Contact the Helotes Humane Society and set up a meet and greet if you'd like to adopt him.

May is an almost five-year-old super sweet American Bulldog mix, who has been at the Animal Defense League on Nacogdoches for a little over two years.

MORE: May has spent the last two years at shelter waiting to be noticed | Forgotten Friends

May's ideal home would be free of any felines and full of kids. She adores kids but just doesn't get along with cats.

"May might bark in her kennel, but once she gets to know you she's a sweetheart who loves to just take naps next to her person," said Jamie. "She's very well-mannered inside but also enjoys outside time, especially if she gets to hang out and sunbathe."

Some of May's favorite things include playing with toys, playing fetch, and a good chew toy. She loves to be petted.

May is another Diamond in the Ruff at ADL, so there is NO FEE to adopt her!

Miles is a 6-month-old Australian Shepherd and Cattle dog mix that was saved from the euthanasia list and brought to CLASS about nine weeks ago.

MORE: Miles was saved from euthanasia at another shelter, has spent whole short life in kennel | Forgotten Friends

Miles adores all dogs and will tolerate cats. However, shelter staff recommend that you introduce Miles slowly to any new friends. He is super friendly and really healthy. He is current on all of vaccinations, heartworm negative, on monthly heartworm prevention, microchipped and has been neutered. He currently weighs about 57 pounds, and is still growing!

He loves to play with toys, and is known as the 'toy thief' at CLASS. In fact, he uses his long, lanky legs to pull his neighbors toys through to his kennel so he can play with them. And he takes very good care of them, too.

Shelter staff believe that Miles would do best with an active family who likes to take a lot of walks, and already has another dog. Kids are okay too, as long as the family realizes that Miles is still a puppy and needs to learn not to jump on people and give them love bites. Miles does really well on a leash.

Probably the best news of all is that Miles' adoption fee has been sponsored, so there is NO FEE at all to bring him home with you.

If you'd like to give Miles a home in time for the holidays, please contact the Canyon Lake Animal Shelter Society. To fill out an application, visit their website here.
