BULVERDE, Texas — We are happy to share the news that Aspen has found her forever family. She was adopted on Saturday by a mom and her daughter and is going to her new home in San Marcos.

Our "Forgotten Friends" series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.
A sweet and gentle Bengal mix cat named Aspen is searching for a home that will last after bouncing back to the Bulverde Area Humane Society a few times now, through no fault of her own.
She was first brought to the shelter in December of 2019 when she was about three months old, with her four brothers and sisters, after being found in a yard in Bulverde Hills. The person who found the kittens said the feral mom had moved her babies into their yard in the hopes that they would be found and loved.
Aspen was adopted about ten days later. Unfortunately for her though, her human had triplets two years later and the three babies would not stop chasing poor Aspen around their home and grabbing her. She was brought back to the shelter because of the anxiety she was being caused.
The second time she was adopted shelter staff had high hopes this home would stick. But the young lady who had chosen her had to move out of state and sadly, could not take her along to her new home. So Aspen bounced back to the shelter again.
That was back in April of 2024. Now she is anxiously awaiting her new home and a new human to love her forever.
Aspen loves other cats, and has a beautiful and gentle nature. She has never shown any aggression to other cats or humans.
We are not sure about dogs, because she has really never had any contact with one. Shelter staff believe if the dog is calm and uninterested in her, they don't believe there would be a problem.
She needs a calm, quiet and predictable household preferably with no young kids. A home with older children would be fine. The shelter believes a single senior or retired couple would be her ideal home.
Aspen is current on all of her vaccinations and is already spayed. She has no special needs other than requiring treats be given to her on time every single day.
"Temptations Treats are her entire life," said Mary Souza, Cat Coordinator. "She sets her kitty schedule to treat time and at exactly 1 p.m., if you forget, she will stare at her treat giver until treats are disbursed."
Weighing in at approximately 13 pounds, she is healthy and robust!
She will need a period of adjustment time to get to know you, but she adapts really well. This friendly and gentle girl is super sweet and deserves a forever home this time.

"We always need volunteers," said Mary. "We need volunteers for administrative, web design, fund raising, property care, gardening mowing and anything else anyone can imagine for a non-profit organization."
The shelter also needs mature, reliable, consistent cat caretakers who put the cats and kittens first. They will hire anyone 16 and older, but the job has to come first and the care of the cats and kittens should rate very high in your life.
"Many of us plan our lives around the caretaking and shelter hours and hope, within reason, the people applying for this position will as well," said Mary.
They have a complete list of items in which they are always in need of right here.
