NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — UPDATE 2/7
We got the great news that Guppy, the one-year-old Boxer, was adopted.
We are always happy to learn when one of our Forgotten Friends goes to their new home.
---------------------------------
Our "Forgotten Friends" series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.
On this week’s Forgotten Friends we meet Guppy, a one-year-old boxer and lab mix who was found running loose as a stray by the Humane Society in New Braunfels (HSNBA) back in October. Sadly, nobody ever claimed him. He is currently the longest staying dog at the shelter.
He gets along really well with other dogs, in fact he likes to play, chase and basically just tumble around with them.
"He would need some work with cats, but he is so eager to please, it should be pretty easy to integrate him into a home with cats," said Sarah, with HSNBA. "He gets along with other dogs, and loves to wrestle around, and with training can live with feline friends. Guppy is the perfect blend of playfulness and relaxation. Whether you’re into hiking, neighborhood strolls, or movie nights, Guppy is your go-to pal."

He definitely needs an active home, preferably with older kids. Guppy just loves everybody.
Guppy loves belly rubs, being petted and cuddling. And treats.
"Guppy recently went into foster care with our Dog Program Manager and is doing so well," said HSNBA. "He is learning house manners and how to co-exist with her dog and cat. He was a dream for bathtime and even let her use that fancy Dremel tool on his nails! She knows he is going to make someone an AMAZING companion!"
Guppy is healthy, vaccinated, microchipped and neutered.
His adoption fee is also WAIVED because he was sponsored by a donor! That's right, there is absolutely no fee to adopt Guppy. But you could always make a donation anyway, to help take care of pets, if you'd like.
Visit the Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area located at 3353 Morningside Drive in New Braunfels, call them at (830) 629-5287 or email them at GeneralInfo@HSNBA.org.
They are open:
- Monday – Friday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Saturdays: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Sundays and Holidays: Closed to the public
For whoever adopts Guppy, Lucy's Doggy Daycare & Spa will be lending a paw by offering them a free "Glow Up" Day at the Spa, which includes a massage therapy bath and Pawdicure. One of Lucy's most cherished core values is to continue Lucy’s legacy of giving back to pups in need, as Lucy herself was a rescue!
Could you be that person?
Are you ready to adopt an animal but you're not sure what you are looking for? Visit their website to see all of their available cats and dogs CLICK HERE. They also always need more fosters. Did you know they pay for all the costs including food, medical and just about everything else? You just supply the home and the love! CLICK HERE to learn more.
HSNBA has a new Volunteer Coordinator and they always need more folks to help out with the animals. Do you want to get involved? CLICK HERE for more information.
Would you like to help the animals at the shelter? You can order from their Amazon Wish List!
CLICK HERE to see what they need most. Two things they really need right now are potty pads and peanut butter! They use the peanut butter to stuff puzzle toys. It gives the dogs something fun to do while they are stuck inside due to the cold. Just make sure it doesn’t have xylitol in it which is toxic to dogs!
As with all shelters, cash is always appreciated, since money comes in handy to pay the veterinary bills associated with saving all the animals in need.
CLICK HERE to donate to the shelter.
Remember when you adopt a shelter pet, you save two lives... the one you bring home with you and the one that now will be saved because the shelter has more room.
