Gypsy is recovering from cancer and needs a loving home | Forgotten Friends

She was found wandering around as a stray with a large, external mass. She has been treated and now needs a loving home.

KERRVILLE, Texas — Our "Forgotten Friends" series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.

This week's Forgotten Friend named Gypsy was found wandering around near Center Point as a stray more than two months ago and brought to Kerr County Animal Services. She had a cancerous mass showing but was saved from euthanasia by Kerrville Pets Alive. She is currently being treated for the cancer, and will be done after her final treatment in two weeks.

"Gypsy was found as an unwanted stray wandering the streets of Center Point, Texas, where many pets are discarded and left to fend for themselves," said Karen Guerriero, Kerrville Pets Alive. "She was picked up by Kerr County Animal Services - Kerr County's High Intake Animal Control, which does have to euthanize pets when space runs out."

Gypsy is a three-year-old Heeler mix that is super friendly.

Gypsy gets along well with other dogs but has not yet been tested with cats.

"Gypsy seems to get along with all ages," said Karen. "She will need to be with a family who can provide the observation and care she needs going forward as she recovers from cancer."

"Gypsy is a doll," said Karen. "She has funny little eyes that sometimes look like the Cat that Ate the Canary. She will be your buddy and your other dog or dog's buddy."

Gypsy loves to go for rides in the car and is usually pretty quiet, not barking much at all. One of her favorite things to do is to play ball. She loves treats and getting petted.

Gypsy is spayed, up to date on all of her vaccines and heartworm negative. She is ready for her new home!

If you would like to add Gypsy to your family, contact Kerrville Pets Alive! at info@kerrvillepetsalive.org. Her adoption fee is $125.
