7-year-old hound dog named Guinness wants to be in a home for the holidays | Forgotten Friends

Guinness was found as a stray after walking into a convenience store over a year ago searching for help.

LULING, Texas — Our "Forgotten Friends" series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.

Guinness is a hound dog who is about seven or eight years old that was brought to the Luling Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) in October of 2023, after being found as a stray. He has gotten a few breaks from the shelter over the last year, but has spent most of his time just waiting for someone to love him.

"Guinness is currently our longest stay resident at the shelter," said Lauri Hanna, Luling Animal Welfare Society. "While he has gotten a few foster breaks, the majority of his time has been spent here. He spent Thanksgiving and Christmas here last year and we are very much hoping he will be celebrating those in a forever home this year."

Guinness gets along with the ladies but definitely would prefer to be the only male dog in the home. Shelter staff say that he definitely has the potential to live with cats, as long as they are "dog savvy" and the animals get introduced properly.

He would make a great addition to any family whether they have kids or not.

"He's is a pretty chill dude, so he doesn't need a very active family," said Laurie. "He enjoys a leisurely walk or to hang out in the yard and sunbathe, but is also content to lounge around the house, especially if he has a yummy chew bone or such."

Like most dogs, he loves treats and adores being petted.

"He loves food, especially treats and will bark to tell you so, especially if he thinks you are being stingy," said Laurie.

He also would like to sleep in a bed, preferably yours... with you!

"He enjoys being around his people and is affectionate, but can also self entertain with chews or toys," said Laurie. "He is also house and crate-trained but can be left free roam when you aren't home."

He is healthy, current on all of his vaccinations and has already been neutered.

He has scored a short term foster break, but will be returning to the shelter in a less than two weeks. It would be amazing to find his happily ever after before he has to return to his kennel.

"Guinness is an easy going boy that is all about the good life," said Laurie.
