CANYON LAKE, Texas — There is no better update that when we hear one of our Forgotten Friends has a new home. Murphy had been saved by the Canyon Lake Animal Shelter just before he was about to be euthanized.
A KENS 5 viewer saw his story and decided he was just what their family was missing. He went home last week.

Our "Forgotten Friends" series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.
This week’s Forgotten Friend is a one-year-old Shepherd and Terrier mix named Murphy, that was pulled from another shelter about three months ago by the Canyon Lake Animal Shelter Society (CLASS), just moments before he was going to be euthanized.
"We do believe he was someone’s baby as he does know basic commands, is well socialized with people and other dogs, and was in decent shape when picked up," said CLASS. "It’s sad to wonder why he was given up on when someone clearly loved him enough to put some effort into training him."
Murphy is really smart and knows some basic commands and gets along fabulously with both dogs and with kids. In fact, shelter staff say they use him to test other dogs on their compatibility and Murphy has now made friends with every dog at the shelter. Cats are a hard pass for him, though.
"He LOVES other dogs," said CLASS staff. "We often use him as a tester dog and he is friends with half the other dogs in our care. He’s a little too interested in cats and so should go to a cat free home."
He’d do best with an active family so he can benefit from their active lifestyle. "He does have a good bit of energy and will benefit from regular mental and physical exercise," said CLASS. "And he does well with kids of all ages."
Murphy loves water and getting pets and hugs, too! "Murphy is a confident pup that holds his head high, ears perked with dignified elegance, eyes gleaming with intelligence, and a smirk on his face as if he knows something we don’t know."
And he loves to entertain himself by tosssing his toys around, then fetching them. "You can’t help but to smile and laugh as he gleefully splashes and bounces in a pool or the lake. It’s delightful to watch as he tosses and chases his favorite toy, sprawls on his back with a toy clutched in his paws, smacks his lips full of peanut butter from a Kong, or effortlessly unravels a puzzle feeder."
Murphy is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up to date on all his vaccines including heartworm prevention. He is ready to go to a loving home.
"He’s hoping his new family includes a canine friend that he can share happy moments and silly shenanigans with for years to come."
Murphy is just about the perfect dog!
"He a gentleman on the leash, just strutting along like he’s modeling on a catwalk, and always polite when greeting those that can’t resist his enchanting aura."
