CONVERSE, Texas — Our "Forgotten Friends" series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.
This week’s Forgotten Friend is a Boxer and Terrier mix named Petey that was brought to the Converse Animal Shelter in 2020 as a stray puppy. He was heartworm positive when he was first brought to the shelter, but was successfully treated and is now healthy and heartworm-free.
Petey is about four and a half years old and has spent his whole life at the shelter just waiting for someone to choose him to bring home and love.
He is a beautiful sand color with incredibly soulful eyes and adorable, expressive ears.
"Petey is not a fan of having a barrier between him and his people, and will express himself as such," said CASI staff. "He doesn’t mean anything by it, we think it has something to do with his unknown past."
He might act a little reserved when he first meets you, but once he is comfortable, his true personality shines through.
"When Petey first meets you, he acts afraid and just a little bit shy," said CASI staff. "But give him a little bit of time, as well as patience and kindness and you find yourself with a wonderful, loving dog."
He can be a little playful but really he is just a homebody who is happy to just spend time chilling with you.
Petey has had a Wisdom Panel done and the results say he is 32% Boxer, 27% American Pit Bull Terrier, 23% American Staffordshire Terrier and a small amount of a few other breeds. But he is guaranteed to be 100% Good Dog!
Petey would be a great option for someone who has a quiet life and just wants a faithful companion to chill and watch Netflix with them.
He needs to be your only pet so he can have your undivided attention.
Petey knows how to sit, lay down, and shake. He does really well on a leash. He likes to play with some toys, but really prefers to play with his favorite humans. He also likes ice cream.
