Reign's wait is over after over 1,330 days at shelter | Forgotten Friends

CONVERSE, Texas — UPDATE 4/14

Reign's long wait for a human to love is over after more than 1,330 days. Her new human scooped her up on Saturday.

"Adopted Reign yesterday," said her new owner. "She's doing fabulous. She ran into the house and picked her spot on the sofa. We are blessed to have found her. She's truly a blessing to our family."

Our "Forgotten Friends" series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.

This week’s Forgotten Friend is a gentle mixed breed dog named Reign that was brought to the Converse Animal Shelter a little over 1,330 days ago. I don't even want to think how long that is in dog years. Since then, she has just been waiting patiently for someone to notice and choose her to bring home to love.

Reign is what the shelter staff call a "San Antonio Special," which means she has almost every breed represented in her genetic makeup. Check out her DNA panel.

Think about how long that is in dog years!

Reign was surrendered to the shelter in August of 2020 with her sister after her human's job moved them overseas. Her sister was adopted quickly, but Reign is a little more reserved, so has been overlooked by potential adopters.

She is about four and a half years old now and has spent almost her entire life living in a shelter.

Reign has lived with other dogs in the past, but the shelter recommends a meet and greet with any potential housemates if you already have a dog. She is not a fan of felines.

Reign loves going on walks and really does well on a leash. She also loves to have a routine. And did we mention that she's smart? She already knows the commands for sit and lay down.

Because she is submissive and shy, especially at first, a quiet home with no small kids would be best for her.

If you have a pool at your home, Reign would be in doggy heaven. She really loves water, getting wet and playing in the plastic pool they put out for her in the summer.

She is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, up to date on her vaccines, dewormed, and current on heartworm prevention.

"She is a sweet girl, and has never hurt a fly," said Lezlie Grimes, CASI. "No one has taken the time to get to know her and she just needs that special person that will help her come out of her shell."
