Senior Heeler mix named Amanda surrendered to shelter after her human went to assisted living | Forgotten Friends

This sweet girl needs a home of her very own where she can spend the rest of her golden years.

KERRVILLE, Texas — Our "Forgotten Friends" series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.

This week, we meet an 11-year-old Heeler mix named Amanda who was surrendered to the AWS Freeman Fritts Animal Shelter in Kerrville by her human who was moving into assisted living in March. Sadly, dogs are not allowed where they moved.

"Amanda’s journey has been tough," said shelter staff." She lost the only family she ever knew due to her owner’s failing health. Now, Amanda is ready for a fresh start with a new family who will shower her with the love and care she deserves. She dreams of a cozy bed and a place where she can feel safe and cherished."

The folks at Freeman Fritts are hoping they can find a new home for her quickly, because she is really sad at the shelter, and they are worried about her well-being.

Amanda loves folks of all ages but she really doesn't like cats. While she might get along with other dogs, shelter staff think she'd prefer a home without any other dogs taking attention away from her.

"Amanda is looking for a home where she can be the apple of your eye as the only four-legged pet in the home," said shelter staff. "She thrives on attention and will be your loyal companion, always by your side with her gentle presence and loving nature."

She weighs in at about 37 pounds. Amanda loves to go on walks every day and playing fetch. She behaves well on a leash and is already potty trained.

"This energetic lady enjoys her daily walks and excels at sitting for treats," said shelter staff. "Despite her age, Amanda’s spirit is vibrant, and she brings joy to everyone she meets."

She has a weakness for dog treats and loves to play with toys.

She's a sweet girl who really needs a home of her very own where she can spend the rest of her golden years.

Amanda is healthy, current on all of her vaccinations, and has already been spayed.

And if you adopt Amanda, you’re not just giving her a home, you’re gaining a devoted friend who will bring endless happiness into your world," said shelter staff.

Be Amanda’s HERO and give her the forever home she longs for.

For whoever adopts Amanda, Lucy's Doggy Daycare & Spa will be lending a paw by offering them a free "Glow Up" Day at the Spa, which includes a massage therapy bath and Pawdicure. One of Lucy's most cherished core values is to continue Lucy’s legacy of giving back to pups in need, as Lucy herself was a rescue!
