Patients at the Methodist Children's Hospital moved to the newly constructed 220,000 square foot tower Tuesday that has been under construction for two years. To make the move more fun, doctors and nurses dressed up the kids with superhero capes.
"As a mom who has had a child in this hospital before, to see the families and the patients light up and have some fun and some joy, it means everything," said Elizabeth Ortega, COO of Methodist Children's Hospital.
When the kids arrived at their rooms, they got an even bigger surprise: Three window washers were dangling from the roof of the new tower dressed up as Batman, Spider-Man, and Superman.
For the parents, seeing their children get a moment to just be kids was priceless.
"He was actually air lifted here and was in a lot of pain, and he's had a little procedure and a cat scan and an MRI and a lot of stuff," said Tara Poole, whose 3-year-old son Joshua has been in the hospital since Saturday for kidney stones. "He's braver than I am."
