An inside look at San Antonio's first Amazon Robotics Fulfillment center

About 2 million packages are distributed on a weekly bases from the Alamo City facility, Amazon officials said.

SAN ANTONIO — Just because hundreds of bots help to pick, pack and ship items from the San Antonio area's first Amazon Robotics Fulfillment Center – which opened in March of this year – doesn't mean they aren't humans coworkers around.

In reality, more than 1,700 employees work at the massive east-side center, dubbed "Amazon SAT3," where customer orders from throughout Texas are fulfilled.

"Our ability to open this fulfillment center has allowed us to fulfill our commitment to speed to our customers, and our ability to do it safely," said Briannica Tye, regional director of operations for Amazon Robotics. "The latest and greatest technology in this building has propelled us.”

The facility stores around 18 million items at any given time, and plays a key role in shipping 2 million items on a weekly basis.
