DALLAS — Surveys show many people got an early start on holiday shopping.
Still, Deloitte said more than a third of people in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are planning to get it done between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
This will be a crucial holiday for many retailers who have struggled mightily during the pandemic.
It will also be a true test of delivery companies. Satish Jindel, the president of ShipMatrix, expects Americans will receive as many as three billion packages during the holiday season.
And he predicts more than seven million packages per day will be delayed.
That's because Jindel expects a total shipping capacity for the industry to be 79.1 million parcels a day during the 34-day period, with 86.3 million packages looking for space. Last year, total capacity was 65.3 million packages with demand at 67.9 million packages a day.
Jindel said he is predicting delivery delays of one or two days for packages.
