'You still have this kind of small-town charm' | Despite rapid growth, Georgetown still has small town feel

For the second year in a row, Georgetown is the fastest-growing city in the U.S.

GEORGETOWN, Texas — An impressive number of Texas cities have been named among this year's fastest growing cities in the U.S, but Georgetown took the No. 1 spot again – for the second year in a row.

It came as a surprise to Georgetown Mayor Josh Schroeder, but he believes it makes sense.

"The growth that we experienced over this last year was even more astronomical than the year before,” Schroeder said.

Georgetown has been on the top 10 fastest-growing cities list regularly since 2015 and was No. 1 in 2016 and 2022. Schroeder said last year, the City reported around 10.5% growth. But this year, that number jumped to 14.4%.

"We've obviously had a ton of people move into our community from all over the world, all over the United States and all over Texas, and we welcome them,” Schroeder said.

But there’s something about this town that makes it unique.

"I think it's the hometown feel,” said Lori Mann, owner of Georgetown Wines and a long-time resident. “This is a growing city and it has been for a while now, but you still have this kind of small town charm."

Schroeder said Georgetown's downtown square is the place that brings the old and new together.

"Over the years, we've seen massive amounts of money invested in the downtown buildings, those historic buildings, and businesses that have started to thrive down there,” Schroeder said.

Mann has lived in Georgetown since 1984, and she said the square doesn't look like it did was when she was younger.

"It's been lovely watching all of the businesses like this come back to the square and revitalize,” Mann said.

Something that hasn't changed over the years is the community.

"I used to be a school teacher, and I see people that I taught, I see people who taught me,” Mann said. “So we still have that community connection, and I think that that's really what people look for when they come to Georgetown."

It's something that neighbors in Georgetown believe will keep people coming to their city for years to come.
