San Antonio's unemployment rate fell to 8.5% in June

Five of eleven industries saw job gains, most notably Leisure and Hospitality. Six industries saw job losses, including 4,400 government jobs lost.

SAN ANTONIO — The June unemployment rate for San Antonio and New Braunfels was 8.5%, a significant drop from 12.7% in May, according to Workforce Solutions Alamo.

Five of eleven industries saw job gains, most notably Leisure and Hospitality. Six industries saw job losses, including 4,400 government jobs lost and 1,800 lost in Education and Health Services.

"The June unemployment rate is lower than the state’s not seasonally adjusted (actual) rate of 8.9%. Nationally, the US not seasonally unadjusted (actual) unemployment rate decreased to 11.2% in June, down from 13.0% reported in May," WSA said in a release.

They said that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Texas in June was 8.6%, down from the 13% reported in May. The seasonally adjusted national unemployment rate fell from 13.3 in May to 11.1% in June, according to the report.
